Deandrey Robinson (Peoria, Ill./Peoria) hit a pair of key shots down the stretch and finished with a double-double as the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team held off Milwaukee Area Technical 79-73 on Wednesday night at John M. Lewis Gymnasium.
KEY MOMENTS
- Leading 68-64 with 3 minutes to go, freshman Scott Gowan (Rockford, Ill./Rockford East) found Robinson at the elbow for a jumper that pushed the Chargers’ lead to six. After a Yuri Swinford basket on the other end for the Stormers (2-3), Nick Hanner (Athens, Ill./Athens) fed Robinson at the top of the key for a 3-pointer and a 73-66 lead with 1:45 to play.
- MATC answered with another Swinford bucket, but Elias Akale (Ashdad, Israel/Mekif Tet) made a baseline drive with a minute left that gave the Chargers a 75-68 advantage.
- Sandburg closed the first half on an 11-2 spurt to go into the locker room ahead 41-32. The Chargers’ lead grew to 51-33 early in the second as they opened the half on a 9-2 stretch.
